Reel recycling

CommScope reel return program

CommScope routes its reusable reels to approved vendors by reel type (wood, composite, steel); you need a full load, and non-CommScope reels or cable disposal cost extra.

Condition rules

  • Flanges smooth and perpendicular to the drum.
  • Wood not decayed or damaged.
  • Photos and dimensions of the reels supplied with the request.

How to schedule

Accumulate a load of reusable CommScope reels, then call the approved vendor for that reel type. Send photos and reel dimensions when you ask.

Notes

The brochure is CommScope's January 2024 edition (CO-110770.3-EN). An older CommScope program document that set stricter wood rules is no longer online, so we do not repeat its terms.

Before you call

  1. Empty every reel

Programs want empty reels. Leftover cable can cost a fee or get the reel refused.

  2. Count CommScope reels only

Other brands don't count toward the minimum. Check the count against the minimum above. Yard math shows how much of a truck it fills.

  3. Inspect against the condition rules

Set aside reels that fail. They go to a buyer or a recycler instead.

Reels CommScope won't take?

Other brands, short loads, plywood and reels that fail inspection can all go in one pickup.
